Kirsten Peckham
A talented multi-instrumentalist and velvet-voiced vocalist, Kirsten Peckham brings a lot to the table with this batch of eclectic songs. Solidifying herself in the Bloomington, IN scene singing and playing keys in Lawnmower! and then KP & Me, Peckham relocated to Louisville, KY and the different surroundings have inspired a bunch of great tunes. This record has it all -- light ukulele strums that recall the carefree early Paul McCartney solo records, swishing brushed snare drums and barroom piano that bring to mind the jazzier work of Jolie Holland, banjo chords and soulful twang that might make you think of Fleet Foxes or Neko Case -- and it’s all tied together with Peckham’s vocal style that’s Billie Holiday-smooth. Lyrically it ranges from tender to silly to thoughtful to downright nasty, so this record is bound to please wide swaths of people who like great music.
